It has been awhile before we are back to Bukit Tabur again. However, this time we will be heading to Bukit Tabur East instead of West as previously. A group of 16 people has signed up for the climb to this infamous Klang Dam Gate Quartz Ridge. We started our journey at the foothill where the Syabas water authority were but on the east side instead of the west side and following the huge water pipe from the dam. We cross a small river before meeting the rest of the hikers at the starting point. A safety briefing and ice-breaking session was conducted by our guide, Apip before ascending the hill. The terrain was steep and mixed with some mild rock climbing session. On certain section, we have to pull on the ropes provided in order to continue on our journey. Although the hike is short but it is pretty demanding as we not only need to use our leg but our biceps as well. Sometime in end of April and early of May 2008, a group of 20 strong hikers from Orang Gunung Kuala Lumpur (OGKL), an affiliate member of Lafuma Malaysia Adventure Group (LMAG) has successfully conquered five volcano peaks (Semeru, Arjuno, Welirang, Penanjakan and Bromo) within 8 days expeditions to Indonesia. On 14 September 2008 a group of 14 people from LMAG have set to explore forest nearby our KL city namely Kota Damansara Community Forest. It is one of the few green lung left within the city vicinity apart from Bukit Gasing in PJ, Taman Tun Dr Ismail & Mont Kiara Forest Reserve, FRIM in Kepong, Bukit Tabur in Taman Melawati and Bukit Apeh in Cheras. The Kota Damansara Community Forest is rich with biodiversity of flora and fauna just like Bukit Gasing in PJ. The forest area was huge and one can hike from Kota Damansara to Bukit Lanjang as well as to Sungai Buloh R&R at Plus NSE Highway area. All of us set to meet at the starting point at 7.45am instead of the usual place at our Lafuma Bangsar outlet. The guide for the trip was none other than Apip and Ng being the sweeper for the day. Sometime in early July 2008, a lovely couple, Steve and Emma both Lafuma members have pledged to fund raise for UNICEF to help the children in developing countries on their charity and fund climb to Mount Kilimanjaro (5,985m), Tanzania, Africa. They are back recently with a successful mission by not only raising more funds than what they have set earlier but also summitted to the one of the highest mountain in Africa! Total funds raised to date was 1,600 Pound! Let's congratulate Steve and Emma for their challenging feats and their determination is definitely something we should learn from. Well with a total of six days expedition mission (from 21/7/08 to 26/7/08) to summit the gigantic mountain, the story from both of them is well worthwhile to read. In the month of October 2008, we will make a revisit to Bukit Tabur but now using the East trail. We will also be heading to Bukit Kutu at Kuala Kubu Baru to visit the historical trail during the colonial era. As informed last month, we shall also be doing caving at Dark Caves, Batu Caves.
